ABOUT SAPA
Sapa is a frontier town and capital of Sapa District in Lào Cai Province in northwest Vietnam. It was first inhabited by people we know nothing about. They left in the entire valley hundreds of petroglyphs, mostly composed of lines, which experts think date from the 15th century and represent local cadastres. Then came the highland minorities of the Hmong and Yao. The town is one of the main market ones in the area, where several ethnic minority groups such as Hmong, Dao (Yao), Giáy, Pho Lu, and Tay live. Groups, as well as by smaller numbers of Tày and Giay. These are the four main minority groups still present in Sa Pa district today. The Kinh (lowland Vietnamese) never originally colonised this highest of Việt Nam’s valleys, which lies in the shadow of Phan-Xi-Pǎng (Fansipan, 3143 m), the highest peak in the country.

About Sue
Sue Giang is a Black Hmong trekking guide from Cau La Chuoi village in Sapa district. Having grown up in the area Sue knows Sapa district like the back of her hand and is able to find the most scenic views and the most beautiful paths. Sapa trekking with Sue can therefore provide you with an unforgettable as well as affordable trekking experience.
The village Sue grew up in is a small Hmong farming community. When she was young Sue would stay at home and help her parents with the farm, watching their buffalos or making handicraft. Sue´s parents now operate a homestay next to their farm. A visit to the Sue´s parents is included in many of the treks provided at ‘Sapa trekking with Sue’. It will give you the opportunity for an enriching experience, learning about Hmong village life in Sapa district. It will also give you the chance for a glimpse at the life of your trekking guide and her family.
Although she comes from a small farming community, Sue has always had big dreams. At the moment her dream is to start and run her own trekking company. The start- up company will include her parents homestay and would give Sue more freedom in organizing her own treks. Hope to see you soon on one of the treks of Sapa trekking with Sue!
